■ TENJINBASHI, KITA WARD, OSAKA, JAPAN: Every year on Christmas day, KFC Japan experiences its busiest day of the year. KFC in Japan has become the equivalent of an annual Christmas dinner, in a day that is not only awesome but often feels like an alternate reality. But what about those days apart from Christmas?
According to Business Journal, KFC Japan has been posting lower sales on a monthly basis. For example, sales were down 3.1 percent in June 2018, 4.9 percent in May 2018 and 6.3 percent in April 2018 (https://kotaku.com/kfc-is-having-a-hard-time-in-japan-1828677098).
The number of patrons also dropped 5.5 percent in June 2018, 8.1 percent in May 2018, 8.5 percent in April 2018. The decrease in sales and patrons has continued over a nine (9) month period.
SO, WHAT HAPPENED TO KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN IN JAPAN?
In this video, I attempt to explain the reason for this decline while soldiering on in my attempt to shop cheaply at Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai in Osaka, Japan. While being price conscious, I show you some interesting items being sold at the 2.6 kilometers (1.6 mi) long Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street. It measures from north to south and boasts of being the longest straight shopping street in Japan.
