There was a part of me that thought it would be a bit before baseball would return. The stalemate between the owners and player's union was fierce, and despite endless marathons of negotiations, both sides had a hard time budging on their demands. Even then, it's as if each contingent realized that MLB would be devastated in terms of its popularity if there was a long lockout. Despite their massive differences and tensions, they agreed to ratify a new CBA: There will be baseball.
There are a few new changes this season: A universal DH, a draft lottery, an extra team added to the playoffs, eliminating the Wild Card game, and a few other changes as well (not to mention bringing back the gimmick of adding a ghost runner during extra innings). However, there is much intrigue for most of baseball: Endless bolstering and adding was done by the big boys, and a few team's firesales allowed others to capitalize on the opportunity.
What does this year bring for the thirty teams in MLB? This video will explain most of what happened. Key word is most. I like to pretend it's most of it.
